Dewa Athena

Dewa Athena is an event held by SMA Negeri 3 Bandung (specifically the Student Council of SMAN 3 Bandung). This year, it is called "Dewa Athena IX" because it's the 9th time this event was held. It was held on the 25th of March and 1st of April (yeah, the event was held for 2 days). Basically, it is an annual sport week. We do all kind of sport activities during this event, and every class has to compete in it. The name "Dewa Athena" which means "Goddess Athena" in English is derived from a Greek virgin goddess named Athena. Athena is the goddess of wisdom, craft, and war in ancient Greek religion and mythology. She was the daughter of Zeus. (https://www.greekmythology.com/Olympians/Athena/athena.html & https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athena)
There were plenty of competitions held, such as basketball, football, relay race, gobak sodor (traditional Indonesian game), volleyball, relay race, dodgeball, and also badminton. Every class had to send the number of students needed (every competition has different number of players) to join every of the competitions held. So, every single class needed to participate in the competitions. The first day which was on 25th of March was the first round, and the second day which was on the 1st of April was the second round. So, the class who won against their competitor on the first round could continue to the second round. Every class had their own "manager" to make sure the players of the class were there and ready to compete so the competition could go well.
In my opinion, this sport week is very important because instead of spending all of our time studying or maybe being a "couch potato", we need to spend some time to take a good care of our body, too, which can be done by doing sports. Participation im sports can be a great way to relieve stress. Today’s students suffer from many different stresses, don't you think? Playing sports can helps students increase their self-esteem and develop more confidence. They will be able to see themselves perform at something, and it will help them feel good about themselves. Also, students who do sports develop more than just physical skills. They also learn important skills that are valued in life. For example, teamwork and patience. So, in conclusion, sport is very important for our health, both on the outside and the inside.
Dewa Athena is held every year because there are many students in SMAN 3 who loves playing sports. So, this event is a really great opportunity for those who love playing sports because they can show their skill to the other students and do what they love. This is a great and healthy way of having rest from studying, too.
On the first day of Dewa Athena, I couldn't join the event because I had to go to a doctor to get a check-up. And it was quite sudden, so I was actually a bit disappointed because I really wanted to join the dodgeball competition with the rest of my friends. Yes, I was supposed to be in charged of the dodgeball game. Dodgeball is very fun, and that's why I chose dodgeball out of all the games. But fortunately, my class' dodgeball team won the first round! So the next week which was the second day, I could finally participate in the dodgeball game. And sadly, me and the rest of the team lost the game to the acceleration class. Huh. But I was still happy that I could join the game, and I enjoyed the game very much.
What I get from this sport week event is that great teamwork is really needed when you want to achieve something that can't be done by ourselves. We will always need the others to help us out to achieve what we want. We also need patience. We can't blame the others for the mistakes they've done, but instead, we need to "self-reflect" and try to make up for the mistakes that we've done. Overall, Dewa Athena was a great event!

Someone Special

One day, I was spending my holiday in Malaysia with my family. And then we went to the airport because we were about to go to Macau. In the airport, me and my cousins went to a tea shop to buy some drinks. And then we sat there for a few minutes. I brought my wallet at that time. And when we were about to go back to our hotel to get our luggages. And that’s when I realized I left my wallet at the tea shop. I don’t usually bring my wallet anywhere, I usually only bring my phone. So I was panicking. I went straight back to the tea shop and I asked one of the waiters whether he’s seen my wallet or not. Luckily, he noticed that I left my wallet and kept it for me. I was really thankful and grateful for his kindness and honesty.

My Holiday

Last holiday, I didn’t go anywhere. I only stayed in Bandung. So, to be really honest, it was a bit boring. But I was still happy to have holiday. The holiday was quite long, it was approximately 2 weeks long. So I thought, I could finally get some rest from studying.
During the holiday, I didn’t do much thing because basically there was nothing to do at my home. So I just slept a lot, ate a lot, and watched a lot of Korean dramas.  But I also went to some malls in Bandung to shop with my mom and sister because a lot of stores were having sale. Most of the time, I went to Paris Van Java Mall because it has everything. Aside from going there with my mom and sister, I also went there with some of my friends. I really enjoyed going there with my friends because there were a lot of restaurants in that mall so we literally could find anything that I wanted to eat. It wasn’t hard to find foods there. We could also buy anything that we needed.
I always went to bed late during the holiday because I didn’t have to wake up early for school. And I watched a lot of Korean dramas, too. So I just couldn’t go to bed early. The Korean dramas I watched were Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo, Hwarang, and W. Those dramas were very nice. I also watched some episodes of Running Man, and I laughed a lot while watching them.
One day, I got sick. I was having fever. I guess I got sick because I always went to bed really late and I didn’t eat my meals properly. But luckily I got over the fever 4 days later, so it wasn’t that bad. But still, during those 4 days I couldn’t go anywhere and I only stayed in my bed. And I didn’t take shower for 4 days long. Ew, I bet I smelled so bad at that time.
On the 4th of January, my aunt, cousin, and nephew visited me in Bandung. They live in Surabaya. I was so excited to see them because it’s been awhile since I last met them. My nephew’s name is Kim. He is 4 years old. And you know what?  He is very smart and he is also very fluent in speaking English. Eventhough he is only 4 years old, but he can already speak English very well because his mom (which is my cousin) teaches him how to speak English.
The next day, we went to Dusun Bambu together. There, we had lunch and took some photos because the scenery was incredible. But not long after that, my nephew suddenly cried. It turned out that he was sick. He was having a really bad cold and his body temperature was high. So we decided to go home and took him to the doctor to get examined. And on the 8th of January, my aunt, cousin, and nephew went back to Surabaya because the holiday was almost over.

Eventhough I spent my holiday in Bandung, I still enjoyed my holiday very much because I spent my holiday with my family. Plus, I could meet my relatives who live afar from Bandung. It was a very fun holiday!

Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson was born in Gary, Indiana on August 19, 1958. Michael's father, Joe Jackson, worked as a crane operator at a steel mill. Both of Michael's parents loved music. His dad played guitar for an R & B band and his mother sang and played the piano. Growing up, all of the Jackson children were encouraged to study music
·         The three older brothers (Jackie, Tito, and Jermaine) formed a band called the Jackson Brothers. Michael and his brother Marlon joined the band in 1964. Soon, the family realized that Michael was a gifted singer and dancer. At just eight years old, Michael began to sing lead vocals along with his older brother Jermaine.
·         Joe Jackson realized that his children were very talented. He felt that they could become successful in music. They changed the name of the band to the Jackson 5 and began playing all around town. Then they began touring the Midwest where they played in bars and clubs. They won several talent shows and began to gain a name for themselves.
·         While still singing with the Jackson 5, Michael had a number of solo albums. At first his solo career didn't take off, but he did have a few hit songs including "Ben" and "Got to Be There." However, in 1978 Michael met music producer Quincy Jones while working on the set of the movie The Wiz. He broke away from the family band and worked on his first "grown up" album. In 1979, Michael released the album Off the Wall
·         Michael wanted to follow up Off the Wall with an even bigger album. This was going to be quite the task. He worked with Quincy Jones again and in late 1982 released the album Thriller. The album was a huge success. It had seven top ten singles and won eight Grammy awards. Eventually, Thriller would become the best selling album of all time. Michael had now become the biggest star in the music industry.
Although Michael's career peaked with the Thriller album, he released several more successful albums including Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991), HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I (1995), and Invincible (2001).
·         Michael died of a heart attack on June 25, 2009. He was fifty years old. The heart attack was likely caused by drugs he was taking to help him sleep.

The Three Little Pigs

Once upon a time there were three little pigs. One pig built a house of straw while the second pig built his house with sticks. They built their houses very quickly and then sang and danced all day because they were lazy. The third little pig worked hard all day and built his house with bricks.
A big bad wolf saw the two little pigs while they were dancing and playing and he thought, “What juicy tender meals they will make!” He chased the two pigs and they ran and hid in their houses. The big bad wolf went to the first house and huffed and puffed and blew the house down in minutes. The frightened little pig ran to the second pig’s house that was made of sticks. The big bad wolf now came to this house and huffed and puffed and blew the house down in hardly any time. Now, the two little pigs were terrified and ran to the third pig’s house that was made of bricks.
The big bad wolf tried to huff and puff and blow the house down, but he could not. He kept trying for hours but the house was very strong and the little pigs were safe inside. He tried to enter through the chimney but the third little pig boiled a big pot of water and kept it below the chimney. The wolf fell into it and died.
The two little pigs now felt sorry for having been so lazy. They too built their houses with bricks and lived happily ever after.

My Unforgettable Moment

One of the moments that I can't seem to forget happened around 6 years ago, and it was when my family and I went to Bali by car. Yes, you read it right. We went there by car. It took approximately 2 days (if it's non-stop) for us to get to Bali. It was very tiring but also fun, because I could experience a new thing. We decided to go there by car because we wanted to visit the cities that we passed before arriving in our final destination which was Bali, such as Yogyakarta, so that we could visit many places and not only Bali.
During the trip, I literally just slept and slept in the car. But sometimes when I woke up, I could see the beautiful scenery of nature beside the road that we passed. I remember I passed so many rice fields, which I believe they're not there anymore by this time because they are now replaced by settlement. Most of the times, we stopped at the restaurants that we found to have a meal. Just any restaurant that we could find.
Before we left the Java Island to cross the sea and get to Bali Island, we went to visit Yogyakarta. We stayed in a hotel for a day. We also visited some of the famous places located in or near Yogyakarta, such as Borobudur Temple and Malioboro Market. That time was my first time visiting Yogyakarta, and Yogyakarta was a beautiful city, especially the Borobudur Temple. It was a very historical place with lots of uniqueness in it.
After we spent a day in Yogyakarta, we then left Yogyakarta and continued our trip to Bali. Because we had to cross the sea to get to Bali Island and of course, we couldn't do that by car, we went to Ketapang Harbour in East Java and got onto the Ferry Ship. The ferry ride took around 4 to 5 hours. It was fun to ride a ferry because I could see the beautiful scenery of the sea.
Finally, we arrived in Gilimanuk Harbour and we got off the Ferry Ship. After arriving in Bali, the place that we first visited was the hotel we would be staying in during our holiday in Bali. I was very happy the moment I inhaled the smell of the beach, because from that I knew that I was only a step away from the beach. I spent a total of 5 days in Bali, and I visited so many interesing places, especially the famous Tanah Lot and Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK).
I've never traveled to somewhere far by car, instead I usually traveled by plane. At first, I was against it when my family said they wanted to go to Bali by car, because I thought it would be very exhausting and not fun at all. But after I experienced it, it was not that bad. I mean, yes, it was exhausting and all, but at the same time it was very challenging and I had a lot of fun. I had a lot of fun because I got to visit many places other than just Bali. It was such an unforgettable moment for me!

My Favorite Place

One of my favorite places that I’ve ever been to is Langkawi Island. Langkawi is an archipelago of 104 islands in the Andaman Sea, some 30 km off the mainland coast of northwestern Malaysia. I visited Langkawi Island around 5 years ago. Yes, it’s been quite a long time, but I still remember clearly how beautiful the scenery was. The sea was incredibly beautiful and flawless. I was very amazed. There were a lot of beaches, too. The beaches were clean and nice.
That time when I visited Langkawi Island, I went to several famous places on that island. The first place that I visited was the Langkawi Sky Bridge. Literally, the Sky Bridge is a hanging bridge which is located up high (it’s 410 ft high, to be exact) until it looks like it’s very close to the sky, and that’s why it’s called the Sky Bridge. It was quite scary and thrilling to walk on such a bridge, I admit. But from up there, I could see the entire scenery of Langkawi Island. And with that, my fear was all gone. As I mentioned earlier, the scenery was amazing. I could see the scenery of the clear blue sea and all the surrounding small islands. It was very satisfying.

After I visited the Sky Bridge, I then went to a place where I could get onto a vehicle named cable car. It is something like a small cabin which is hanging up above the sky and it’s supported by cables only. Well, this one was a bit scarier than the Sky Bridge for me, because it was moving as we were on it. But again, I could see the beauty of Langkawi Island from up there and it definitely blew my mind. Looking back to when I was there, I have to say that It was a lot of fun!

The third place that I went to was the Dayang Bunting Island. Dayang Bunting Island is famous for it’s form that resembles a pregnant woman. If you look closely, you will be able to see a “pregnant woman” lying in between the two other islands, and that’s why the island is called “dayang bunting” which mean “pregnant ladies” in Malay. It was very interesting to see that famous island from up close.
Langkawi is indeed a very alluring island. I am very grateful that I've ever visited such a beautiful place with so many tourist attractions. If i had a chance to go back, I would gladly take the chance and go back to that amazing island.
